Ann Christopher RA British, b. 1947

About
Elegant yet powerful, Ann Christopher’s work is inspired by an array of visual memories – skyscrapers, shadows, organic markings on land, the outline of a distant horizon or planes tracking across the sky.
A highly respected Royal Academician, Ann Christopher's work holds a powerful presence. Starting from the most basic materials, Christopher constructs her sculptures by hand – following her intuition in the way her forms come together. For most sculptors this is the end of the process, but not for Christopher, who hand finishes each work in the metal once it has been cast. Ann Christopher studied sculpture at the West of England College of Art, and was the youngest female sculptor to be elected to the Royal Academy in 1980. Her work is held in many public collections including those of the British Museum, London; City of Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, Bristol; Contemporary Art Society, London; Corcoran Legacy Collection, Washington DC, USA,  The Royal Academy and Pallant House Gallery, Chichester.
