David Mach RA b. 1956
David Mach has established himself as one of Britain’s most exciting contemporary artists working today. His work is characterised by his unique ability to turn mundane materials such as newspapers, playing cards, pins, and coat hangers into awe inspiring sculptures.
Born and raised in Fife, Scotland, Mach grew up deeply rooted in his working-class community whose ethos of "a little hard work never hurt anyone" has been carried through into the often labour intensive sculpture he makes. For Mach, the art of making his work is just as important as the finished piece itself.
Mach’s use of everyday materials is his way of levelling the playing field for his viewers. He believes no matter who you are, common materials like newspapers and pins are something we are all exposed to, allowing an accessibility to his work and breaking down the often-intimidating 'art elitism'.
David Mach is a highly regarded Royal Academician and his work can be found in many important public and private collections around the globe.
