Jason Wason British, b. 1948
Living and working in an isolated farmhouse on Britain’s most westerly points in Cornwall Jason Wason absorbs the stark beauty of the elements which clearly inform his beautiful and timeless work.
Since the 1980s Wason has concentrated on making bigger, sculptural ceramics that transcend the traditional boundaries between disciplines. These ambitious vessels are inspired by the great ceremonial wares of the past, and by Wason’s deep affinity with nature - broad deep bowls, jars, pouring vessels, disk-like containers, lidded jars and big dishes. These fuse ancient elements of form with the many types of craft he has seen on his travels whilst also retaining the direct, ever-present light, colour and texture of his Cornish home.
