Fish are a common theme in my work. I’ve never understood why. But making these figures gave me some insight. Water is often seen as a representation of the unconscious. So fish being ‘fruit of the sea’ becomes ‘fruit of the unconscious’. Which feels like an apt description of my creative process. I do my best to trust the images my mind throws at me even when my conscious mind doesn’t understand them.
