'Robed Figure' is from a period in the 1950s where Bridgeman notably experimented with twisted, balanced forms. This development coincided with the artist being awarded the Otto Beit Award for Sculpture in 1947 and a Rome Scholarship, before being appointed Head of Sculpture at Birmingham School of Art in 1956 where he was an inspiration to many generations of students until his retirement in 1981.
