'Oracle' is part of a series that began in an unlikely setting - a bar in Italy - where Almuth Tebbenhoff found herself idly experimenting with a cigarette lighter, cocktail sticks and a paper napkin. Lighting the cocktail sticks until they glowed like charcoal, she used their smouldering tips to burn delicate holes into the paper. What began as a spontaneous act soon evolved into a series of drawings, the patterns of scorched marks forming intricate compositions that Almuth likened to distant solar systems. She later selected a number of these drawings for development into digital files, which were ultimately realised as steel and silver sculptures.
