This sensual bronze female figure is reminiscent of Coventry’s early carvings in Dutch Elm wood from the trees that were cut down on his Cornish farm when they were affected by disease. Inspired by the material, these carvings brought about Coventry’s return to sculpture, an impulse which had lain dormant since leaving the Royal College of Art in his youth and making his career in farming.
