Jonathan Clarke b. 1961

About

Jonathan Clarke uses a unique process to create his sculpture, casting his works in aluminium himself and taking full control of the making of each work at his foundry in Suffolk.

Jonathan Clarke grew up surrounded by sculpture and worked for many years as an apprentice to his father the artist Geoffrey Clarke. Like his father, he has been widely commissioned for public projects throughout the UK. His style is both abstract and architectural yet carries a great deal of emotional resonance, often taking inspiration from social, spiritual and mythological subject matter. Other influences that Jonathan cites include the sculptors Eduardo Chillida and Anthony Caro, as well as two-dimensional artists such as Robert Motherwell and Mark Rothko.
