Tiziana Mandolesi Italian, b. 1972

About

"My work centres around creating original, unique, abstract sculptures, a combination of lines, curves, shapes and spaces, with an atavistic atmosphere."

Tiziana Mandolesi is a London based multidisciplinary artist from Le Marche, Italy. Mandolesi’s primary medium has been abstract painting; however, in recent years she has become increasingly interested in and dedicated to sculpture. Working in bronze has allowed her a new kind of formal freedom. Using similar compositions of shapes and lines to her paintings, Mandolesi sculpts abstract paintings, with organic impulses, working on the piece from all angles and perspectives. She is fascinated by the technique of lost wax casting, a complex process formulated over thousands of years, a balance between volatility and intricacy.

Mandolesi’s sculptures combine several intricate processes that help her reach the final appearance, unknown at the outset. This process involves walking, connecting with nature and birds, silent pondering, sketching, sculpting in wax, mould making, bronze finishing and patinating. She is fascinated by the relationship between the thing formed by hand and fire, from wax to bronze, appealing to her interest in the poetic possibility of materials and juxtapositions that occur during the artistic process.
