Jane Ackroyd discovered steel during her undergraduate degree at St Martin's School of Art and never looked back. The material of choice for her sculptures, it could easily be said that Ackroyd's work is a celebration of steel – utilising its flexibility and strength to explore abstraction and create a sense of drama and beauty.

For Ackroyd, sculpture offers a vehicle to connect to her unconscious self, drawing on memories of a bohemian childhood in 1960's Notting Hill to connect with shape, light and texture. In recent years, Ackroyd has experimented with painting her sculptures with vibrant colours to further emphasise her forms.
